CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL COACHES, TEAMS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE QUALIFIED FOR THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS SLATED FOR APRIL 16-19. AS A COURTESY, WE WOULD LIKE FOR ALL VALLEY COACHES TO SCHEDULE THEIR PRACTICE ROUNDS ON ANY DAY BESIDES THE DAY BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT STARTS. ALSO, A REMINDER THAT ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR PRACTICE ROUND, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE ON THE CHIPPING AND PUTTING GREENS ON THAT DAY ONLY! HOWEVER, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE PRACTICE AREA (PUTTING AND CHIPPING GREENS) ANY OTHER TIME, DAY OR NIGHT. THE DRIVING RANGE CAN BE USED AT ANY TIME. The results for the 32-4A District Boys and Girls tournament and the 32-5A District Boys and Girls tournament are now up. Congratulations goes out to all the regional qualifiers from Districts 32-4A, 32-5A, and 30-5A (girls only). Next week, District 31-5A and the Boys District 30-5A tournaments will be held. Many of the invitations for the Spring tournaments are now up. Now up are the Sharyland Boys Invite, Sharyland Girls Invite, Brownsville Spring Invite, PSJA Memorial Varsity Girls and JV Boys Invite, Brownsville/San Benito Invite, and both Boys and Girls RGVGCA Spring Invites. The Boys and Girls Mission invites should be up by this Tuesday as well. Coaches who are hosting Spring tournaments and have not e-mailed their invitation to Coach Castillo must do so as soon as possible.

The results for the 2011 PSJA Boys & Girls Invitational held Nov 18-19 are now up.
Also, a quick note from RGVGCA President Adrian Garcia. Those coaches who are hosting a tournament in the spring need to post their invitations on this site as soon as possible. Many schools need 3 to 4 weeks of advance notice to do their web travels and bus requests. Please e-mail your invitations to Coach Danny Castillo at missiongolfcoach@juno.com so he post them.

RGVGCA President Adrian Garcia has the following message for all RGV coaches:
Coaches, we use the monies from the memberships to help offset cost for awards, food and beverages for the players, for the 5 RGVGCA golf tournaments that we host yearly.
The RGVGCA will host a golf outing at the end of the year for all paid members. we will feed all the members and charge a minimum green fee and cart for those who wish to play. I am still working on details. Your assistance in paying your dues is appreciated. Remember why we coach golf?

Tournament hosts... please don't forget there is now a universal spectator rules sheet online. The link is on the left of this page. It is imperative we follow up on these rules and its consequences if broken. We must set a precedence early this year so that the spectators adhere to the rules all year long.

Adrian Garcia has scheduled a golf coaches meeting for ALL Rio Grande Valley Coaches to discuss this year's schedule, tournament rules (so as everyone will agree and comply to unsportsmanlike conduct by players, maximum score limits, etc), and other items on the agenda. It is important that all or as many coaches as possible attend the meeting... especially those who will be directing a tournament this school year.
Since most coaches are already back at work (or will soon be), the meeting is scheduled this Friday (August 5) at 11 am. The site will be the same place as last year... the Best Western in Weslaco right off the expressway (exit Intl Blvd). Since this is an official meeting of valley coaches, we are certain most Athletic Coordinators will allow their coaches to attend the meeting during work hours.

Coach Adrian Garcia, RGVGCA President, would like to announce that the RGVGCA Scholarship Tournament is now on schedule to be played on Saturday August 6, 2011 at Martin Valley Golf Course in La Joya. Coaches... please form a team and participate in the event. Entry fee has been lowered to $60 per player and the format is 3 man scramble.

Congratulations to McAllen Memorial's Papito Gonzalez for shooting 74 - 78 for a 152 total in windy conditions at Palmview Golf Course at the 2011 5A Regional Golf Tournament. The score qualified Papito for this year's state tournament, but it wasn't easy. Besides the wind, Papito had to hold off Harlingen South's Roman Robledo who made a second day charge by shooting a 69. Both Papito and Roman had play three extra holes before Papito won with a birdie. Also advancing is Christian De La Cruz from San Antonio Johnson. San Antonio Reagan won the team title while San Antonio Churchill placed second. Both team advance to state to represent their respective schools.

Congratulations to Edinburg High's Jessica Tamen for shooting 74 - 76 for a 150 total in extremely windy conditions at Los Lagos Golf Course at the 2011 5A Regional Golf Tournament. Jessica won the individual title and has qualified for the state tournament. Also advancing individually was Allisona Howarth from San Antonio MacArthur. San Antonio Reagan won the team title while San Antonio Churchill placed second. Both teams advance to state to represent their respective schools.
